Unathi in a community conversation

Not every cultural intervention should be organised around commercial return. Some cultural work exists because it should exist.

Unathi’s non-profit and public-interest work creates a separate space for cultural participation, public education, heritage, knowledge-sharing and initiatives whose value is social, educational or sector-wide.

Unathi’s non-profit and public-interest work is grounded in a simple set of values: that cultural participation should be meaningful; that knowledge and opportunity should not be confined to those who already have access; that people should engage cultural life with dignity and agency; and that the cultural and creative industries can contribute to education, empowerment, livelihoods and stronger communities.

The principal institutional home for this work is Creative Feel NPC, a South African non-profit company whose public-benefit mandate spans arts, culture and heritage; education and skills development; creative livelihoods; rights and business readiness; public education and knowledge-sharing; inclusion and cultural participation; storytelling and documentation; and the use of digital tools to widen access.

The work is practical and partnership-based: programmes, training, resources, cultural communication, documentation and community-facing initiatives designed around public benefit rather than commercial return alone.
