Opera demands more than accurate accompaniment. It requires an orchestra that understands breath, text, theatre, pacing and the relationship between the pit and the stage.
Orchestral Arts Africa will build flexible orchestral capacity for opera productions and co-productions, working with singers, conductors, directors, producers, designers, training institutions and opera organisations.
The programme is intended both to support existing work and to make new production possible: chamber-scale projects, emerging-artist platforms, South African repertoire and partnerships in which orchestral resources are often the missing piece.
