This October notebook brings together two current resources for creative practitioners and programme teams. It is dated 8 October 2026. Funding pages and programme schedules can change, so follow the source links before making plans.
The selection is editorial context for the practice areas on this website. It does not announce Unathi’s participation in either initiative or imply a partnership with the organisations mentioned.
Skills belong inside the programme
UNESCO published Skills and Employment in Culture and Creative Industries in May 2026 and updated the page in July. It discusses the connection between skills systems and the needs of cultural and creative sectors, including the value of coordination between education and industry.
A useful planning response is to ask which capabilities a project will need after its immediate output is complete. Technical training may sit alongside project management, rights awareness, communication and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Development should have time and ownership in the programme. If learning is expected to happen only after delivery work is finished, it can be the first commitment to disappear under pressure.
Check the status before sharing an opportunity
The British Council’s Connections Through Culture page states that the 2026 application round closed on 12 August. As checked for this notebook, outcomes were expected from 14 October, with timing subject to change. It should therefore not be circulated as an open application call on 8 October.
Eligibility and programme coverage also matter. A useful opportunity listing should identify the relevant countries, partners, deadline and official source rather than relying on a headline alone.
Keep a small, useful research habit
For an independent practitioner, a manageable reading routine may be more valuable than a very long list of saved links. Record why a resource matters, what action it suggests and when its details need checking again.
For organisations, assign responsibility for maintaining opportunity information. Remove expired calls from active lists or mark them clearly as closed. This protects applicants’ time and makes the remaining information easier to trust.
The aim is informed preparation: knowing what is available, what has closed and what knowledge will help the next project succeed.
